WCCO TV’s Caroline Lowe interviewed Northfield Police Chief Mark Taylor about Rice County’s “Take It To The Box” medication disposal program. Mary Nelson, member of the Mayor’s Task Force and Rice County Chemical Health Coalition, was the driving force behind this campaign.
Griff Wigley blogged about the program on the Locally Grown Northfield blog in September.
Mayor’s Task Force member Joan Janusz wrote a guest column for the Northfield News publicizing the program.
The Northfield News provided an update on the program a month after it was unveiled.
The Faribault Daily news did a story covering the success of the “Take It To The Box” program at the ten week mark.

Mayors Task Force on Youth Alcohol and Drug Use member, Dr. Kris Matson, wrote a guest column for the Northfield News titled “Are Our teens children or adults?“. Dr. Matson was interviewed about this topic by KYMN Radio’s Jeff Johnson.

The Moravian Church will host its third Town Hall Meeting Sunday, November 8th at 3 pm. The event is free and open to the public. The topic is “Stories: Addiction and Recovery in Northfield”. Pastor Amy explained the event and issued an invitation in a Northfield News guest column.

The impact of alcohol or drug use on athletic performance

The presentation is led by John Underwood, President of the American Athletic Institute. A formed NCAA All-American, John has coached or advised more than 25 Olympians (including World and Olympic Champions) and has worked with nearly every sport federation (including the NCAA, NHL, U.S. Olympic Committee, Sport Canada, and International Olympic Committee). John and the American Athletic Institute present Pure Performance to the National Basketball Association (NBA), USA Hockey, and university teams including the University of Minnesota, Princeton University, and the University of Michigan. They have also presented at high schools across the country and will be presenting again to the Lakeville school district during this visit.
